The Porcelain Figure: Capturing Expression and Detail on an Intimate Scale

August 18 – 19, Saturday and Sunday, 10am – 4:30pm 
(Optional follow-up meeting: September 9, 1 – 4pm)

In this hands-on, fast-paced workshop, we will develop hand-building techniques to create small-scale figures in porcelain. Crystal Morey will discuss the development of her work, her artistic and art historical inspirations, and a step-by-step method of hand-building in the challenging medium of porcelain.

We will cover topics from planning a sculpture, the construction, adding delicate elements, to the final processes of drying and firing a complete piece. With an overview on proportion and anatomy, Morey will demonstrate figurative gesture, including the hands and face, and the tools and water content needed to achieve a high level of detail. 

This is a three-day workshop with two consecutive days of instruction, and a third day for sharing and questions. Through this intensive workshop, you will come away with new knowledge and skills, for creating sculptures in the magical clay of porcelain. All skill levels are welcome, please join us!
