Drop-In Use for Making and Firing

Come in and work in our space on your own!

Drop-in passes allow public access to the Studio and include use of Studio equipment. Bookings are not necessary, but please call ahead — drop-in use is subject to space availability even within advertised drop-in hours (see right).

GETTING STARTED

Please sign in with the reception at our main 4th Street entrance each time you visit. You’ll get a sticker that’s valid for your time in the studio.

Please Note: You must purchase a drop-in pass if you plan to glaze work at the Studio.

Skill Level

Drop-in use does not include instruction. You must have experience working with clay and with the equipment you plan work on (wheel, slab roller, etc.) to use The Potters’ Studio as a drop-in visitor. If you’re glazing, you must have experience with glazing and know how to prepare, dip, and clean up your glazed work.

CLAY

The Potters’ Studio is a cone 10 studio, and drop-in visitors must use cone 10 clay for all wet work in the Studio.

We sell a range of cone 10 stoneware and porcelain clays by the 25# bag.

If you bring your own clay or in-progress greenware, you MUST get sign-off from Potters’ Studio staff before starting work.

GLAZING

Our in-house cone 10 glazes are available for all drop-in visitors preparing their work to fire at the Studio, and the cost of glazes is built into our contract firing rates. We have about 20 cone 10 glazes as well as colored slips, stains, and oxides.

See more to the right about FIRING SERVICES.

STORAGE

Please bring any bats, boxes, plastic wrap and other storage items you need to transport your work to and from the Studio.

Tools

Please bring your own personal tools (wire, needle tool, ribs, etc.). We also sell new Kemper pottery tool kits.
