The Potters’ Studio’s Newest Staff Member: Evelyn Easton Koehler
June 16, 2023, was Studio Coordinator Sami Duskis’ last day in the studio before taking her sunny disposition and upbeat personality to the city that never sleeps, New York. Even though Sami’s positive and energetic spirit have exited the Studio for good, a few days later, on June 20th a new Studio Coordinator, Evelyn Easton Koehler arrived excited to join the wonderful Staff at TPS.
Evelyn is a University of Oregon graduate where she majored in Environmental Studies and Spanish. Evelyn grew up in Portland and following graduation, she worked for Verde, a nonprofit organization that focuses on building environmental wealth through social enterprise, outreach, education, and advocacy. While at Verde, Evelyn was responsible for storytelling and directing the organization’s communications. Evelyn also has experience with grant writing and working directly with members of the community, her skills and experiences will definitely be an asset to TPS.
Evelyn decided she wanted a change of pace so nine months ago she moved from the comfort zone of her hometown of Portland to Berkeley. Fortunately, she was able to move in with her brother to help ease her into life in the Bay Area. Before joining TPS Evelyn worked as a nanny for a very special little girl who will always be a part of her life and as a bartender at a wine and cider bar, Redfield on College.
Although it was only her third day on the job, it was clear Evelyn had hit the ground running and was eager to assume the responsibilities of Studio Coordinator. While she is still figuring things out, Evelyn hopes to help streamline the administrative processes and be available to support TPS programs and goals. She is looking forward to being available to the other Staff members, the Students, and the Members. Evelyn believes in clear communication and the importance of treating people the way she wants to be treated. She recognizes that people can have a bad day, but is confident that all issues can be resolved through clear and direct communication.
Evelyn took some pottery classes at The Mud Room in Portland and plans to take a few classes at TPS once she is settled. Evelyn loves living in Berkeley because it is so close to the salty ocean air. She enjoys chatting, reading, being outside, and music, especially the band Big Thief. Evelyn’s guilty pleasures include Dream Fluff Donuts and fresh tofu from JooDooBoo.
Evelyn is excited about working at TPS and is eager to help everyone. Be sure to stop by and say “hi” and bask in the glow of Evelyn’s warm smile.
