Meet the New Board Members
Four new Members recently joined the Board and have already hit the ground running in numerous ways to help the Board develop creative fundraising ideas and provide general support to the Studio. You may already know them as they are all Members of the Studio but in case you do not, please introduce yourself and welcome them to the Board.
Philomena Bradford (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist who recently relocated from Houston, Texas and has been a Member of the Studio for the past two years. She explores themes of loss through ceramic sculpture, painting, and performance. When she’s not hand-building backpacks and shoes, you’ll find her in Community Crit, fundraising for our fantastic community, or focusing on DEIA initiatives. Philomena’s unique artist’s eye and dedication will be an asset to both the Board and the Studio
Scott Jennings has been a Teaching Artist at the Studio for the past seven years. Scott regularly teaches a handbuilding course and a guided one-on-one independent study class. In this upcoming session Scott is teaching Ceramics for the Garden. Scott received his BFA in ceramics from Cal State Fullerton and teaches at the community college and studio level throughout the Bay Area. Scott generously agreed to serve as Vice President of the Board and we are delighted to have his perspective as one of our longtime Teaching Artists.
Laura Leaverton joined the Studio three years ago after retiring from a career as a software engineer and coder. Laura is delighted to have free time as a retiree to walk her dog, explore ceramics, and now work on various projects for The Potters’ Studio. Laura is one of the founding members of the Community Support Group and she has lots of ideas about bringing Members and Students together for shared events and activities. We are delighted Laura has agreed to bring a fresh set of eyes to the Board and include the Board in her post-retirement activities.
Serene Fang has been a Member of the Studio for the past eight years. Serene is a former journalist and grant writer and is especially committed to soda firing. Serene loves the Studio and joined the Board to share her commitement, ideas, and interests regarding all things ceramic, especially with regard to sustainability and finding ways to support the rebuilding and construction of the soda kiln and other new ventures for the Studio. We are confident that Serene’s addition to the Board will be a real asset on many levels.
