Notes From the Suggestion Box
Around the Wedging Table regularly features some of the questions left in the Studio’s suggestion box and the Studio’s responses to those suggestions. This way the Studio community will know what types of issues are of interest to the Members and how those issues are addressed by Staff or Board. Below are some recent items selected from the suggestion box and the corresponding response.
Staff comments: We are in the process of making more ware boards. We have selected 12”x12” for the sculpture builders. We have found 20”x20” or larger create more problems than they solve with our modest space and storage limitations.
Staff comments: Thank you for this inquiry. Unfortunately, the Damp Room has limited space and is first-come, first-served. We prefer large pieces in open storage wrapped in plastic while in progress. People with plates also need a place to store their WIP, and the upper shelves are safer from damage.
Please remove your work from the Damp Room as soon as possible to make room for new work. Move it to open storage after trimming and drying for the next step. The Damp Room is not for slow drying of greenware.
Staff comments: Thank you – glazes@berkeleypottersstudio.org is an existing email address that you can send questions to.
Staff comments: Thank you Toni, we are making bigger wareboards and trying to buy new tiles. Unfortunately tiles bigger than 6”x6” are not durable enough for the wear and tear that we experience at The Potters’ Studio.
Staff comments: We currently have a thermostat set to 55ºF for overnight. The heater turns on from 7AM to 9PM, as earlier morning traffic is too light for us to heat the building. As always, we encourage potters to wear layers for comfort.
