THE SUSTAINABLE STUDIO
As many of you know The Potters’ Studio has taken several steps towards obtaining our Green Business certificate and making our contribution towards protecting the environment. We have replaced all the fluorescent lights in the studio with LED light bulbs. We aggressively recycle clay and we process the glaze water that collects in the glaze room to prevent the glazes from contaminating the groundwater.
You may have noticed the bowls of sludge that sit right outside of the kiln yard. In case you didn’t know, that is actually the sediment and sludge that we have harvested from the rocket in the glaze room. We fill those bowls and vessels with the sludge and let them air dry until all the water has evaporated and then we throw the hardened product in the trash. This is certainly much better for the environment and the Bay than simply allowing the glaze waste to go down the drain and into the Bay.
We are always looking for more ways to be a sustainable and environmentally responsible studio.
