Sustainability
at The Potters’ Studio

Our new 10,000 Sq. Ft. facility will incorporate sustainability practices through innovative, thoughtful measures:

• Dust Mitigation and Enhanced Air Filtration: Installing state-of-the-art dust  and air filtration systems will help maintain clean air quality within the studio, reducing harmful particulates and creating a healthier environment for our members and students. Read more >

• Eco-Friendly Lighting and Heating: The facility will feature energy-efficient lighting and heating systems, such as LED lighting and high-efficiency HVAC units to reduce energy consumption and lower our carbon footprint.

• Water Conservation: We will implement watersaving technologies and practices such as low-flow fixtures and water recycling systems, to minimize water usage and promote sustainability.

• Clay Recycling: Expand our existing clay recycling program, which separates discarded clay trimmings and throwing water into fresh recycled clay and water for cleaning our studio. This system has been instrumental in saving thousands of gallons of water every annually and recycling 70 pounds of clay every other day. An updated pug mill will optimize energy efficiency in our clay and water recycling process and further reduce our environmental footprint. Read more >

• Solar Paneling: The architecture of our new building offers the potential to incorporate solar panels into our power operations, further reducing our reliance on non-renewable energy sources and lowering our overall environmental impact.

• Recycling and Waste Reduction: Our new space will include dedicated areas for recycling clay and other materials, as well as composting organic waste, to ensure that we minimize waste and reuse resources wherever possible.

• Sustainable Materials: We will use eco-friendly and sustainable building materials in the construction and renovation of the new studio to reduce the environmental impact of our facility.

• Natural Light Utilization: The design will maximize the use of natural light through strategically placed windows and skylights, reducing the need for artificial lighting during daylight hours.

By integrating these sustainability practices into our new facility, The Potters’ Studio will significantly reduce its environmental footprint, promote a healthier and more efficient working environment, and set a benchmark for sustainable practices within the ceramics community nationwide.
